Payout to non-uniformed prison staff in Scotland
The PCS public and commercial services union has secured significant payouts for hundreds of non-uniformed Scottish Prison Service Staff, the majority of whom are women.
Scottish Prison Service has settled a long-standing dispute over pay for nearly 600 workers. Prison officers had received bonuses totalling £4,000 since 2015 which had not been paid to non-uniformed staff.
PCS argued that these payments were discriminatory as uniformed staff are predominantly male while women make up the majority of non-uniformed staff in the same grades.
Rather than go to an employment tribunal, the Scottish Prison Service has reached agreement with the union to pay all staff in the same grades as prison officers the same bonuses, backdated to the initial payment in 2015.
Hundreds of staff will now receive payments of up to £4,000.
