UCU wins recognition at university spin-off


University lecturers’ union UCU had to go through the statutory procedure to win recognition on behalf of 70 teachers at CU Services Ltd – one of a number of subsidiaries of Coventry University. The teachers deliver English language courses for international students.


CU Services had been unwilling to recognise the UCU voluntarily so the union went to the Central Arbitration Committee, which ordered a ballot. Of the 70 teachers balloted, 51 votes were cast – all in favour of UCU being recognised to negotiate for CU Services staff.
