Five recognition deals for Unite
General union Unite has reached five recognition deals through the statutory procedure recently, four of them without the need for a ballot.
The Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) awarded the union recognition for:
• terminal operatives at DP World — London Gateway, which runs a container port;
• Heathrow-based aircraft maintenance technicians employed by American Airlines;
• employees at Citizen Advice Merton & Lambeth; and
• staff at the National Bank of Greece.
A ballot was required at the Ipswich site of fruit and nut wholesaler Besana UK, when Unite claimed recognition on behalf of warehouse operatives. The voting was overwhelmingly in favour of recognition.
