COVID-19 in prisons

EPSU, the European public services union confederation, has highlighted the impact of COVID-19 on prisons across Europe, with outbreaks of infection in many states and the death of inmates and/or staff in France, Italy, Spain and the UK.

Its five recommendations cover: personal protective equipment; respect for working time rules and union rights; a reduction in the number of prisoners detained; communication between managers and unions; and cooperation between the health, justice and labour ministries.
