Gender pay gap reporting
They were given a year to file the information but hundreds of organisations face legal action after failing to meet an extended deadline to report their gender pay gap, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) said.
Organisations with more than 250 staff had to publish the details of their gender pay gap relating to April 2017 by 4 April 2018 for private companies and 31 March 2018 for public sector organisations.
Last month the EHRC contacted 1,500 organisations that had failed to submit their data by the deadlines, giving them until 7 May to publish their reports on their websites and the government’s gender pay gap service, as required by law. As a result the number of employers facing investigation is now under 500.
Commission chief executive Rebecca Hilsenrath said there would be “zero tolerance” of firms that failed to comply.
“Breach of these regulations is breaking the law and we’ve always been clear we will enforce with zero tolerance,” Hilsenrath said.
The EHRC is expected to begin its investigations in June.
