Growing PCS membership

The PCS public services union has published plans to grow its membership by 10% to 200,000 by 2020.

The union’s National Organising Strategy 2018, which was due to be discussed at the union’s annual delegate conference as Workplace Report went to press, also aims for every branch or workplace to have union density of more than 50%.

The targets also envisage having at least one PCS representative or Advocate in every workplace and having 10,000 Advocates by 2020, 60% of whom will be women. They also include having members from underrepresented sections of the membership (young, black, disabled and LGBT members and women) represented at all levels of the structure in proportion to the make-up of the membership.

The PCS organising strategy is linked to the overall financial and industrial objectives of the union.
