Small claims limits
A broad coalition of legal, safety and trade union organisations has called on the government to step back from pushing more workplace injury cases through the small claims court process.
The government is proposing to double the small claims limit for employer liability cases from £1,000 to £2,000.
Shopworkers’ union Usdaw general secretary Paddy Lillis explained that increasing the small claims limit will unnecessarily restrict access to justice for tens of thousands of injured workers and negatively impact on health and safety standards in workplaces.
The Association of British Insurers, British Safety Council and Thompsons Solicitors are part of the coalition.
