New offer at Shelter

A three-day strike at the housing charity Shelter has been called off after management made an improved offer to staff.

Four hundred advice and support workers were due to walk out on 16 December. However, a new deal, which includes better pay rates for new starters and the withdrawal of proposals to review pay for existing staff, will be put to members in a ballot over the coming days.

Peter Storey, regional officer for the Unite general union which organises the workers, said the new deal represented “a significant improvement on previous offers by the charity”.

The union had argued that Shelter was in a healthy financial position.
