Economic growth slows in Q3

Economic growth slowed to 0.7% in the third quarter from 0.9% in the second, official figures show.

The preliminary estimate from the Office for National Statistics showed that gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.7% in services and 0.5% in production.

Manufacturing, which is part of production, increased by 0.4%, after 0.5% growth in the second quarter.

GDP was 3.0% higher than the same quarter a year ago, while production was up by 2.2% and manufacturing by 3.4%.

As they are only preliminary estimates, the figures are open to revision.
