Changes to the ONS inflation basket

Homeworking, the pandemic and healthy eating have been reflected in the items used by the ONS to estimate the cost of living.

In 2022, it says, 19 items have been added to the consumer prices index including owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH) basket, and 15 items have been removed.

Coming in are meat-free sausages, canned pulses, sports bras, pet collars and antibacterial surface wipes.

And among the items being removed are doughnuts, men’s suits and coal.
