TSSA re-election

Members of the transport staff union TSSA have overwhelmingly re-elected Gerry Doherty as their general secretary for another five-year term. He defeated sole opponent David Buswell by 5,088 votes to 868 in a turnout of 21.4%.

Doherty said: ”I am delighted that our members have backed my policy of transforming our union into a campaigning organisation, fighting for them and the travelling public.”

• Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT rail union, has been re-elected unopposed to serve another five-year term at the helm.

• General union Unite’s newly elected and merged executive council meets for the first time this month to serve a three-year term. The council comprises 80 representatives — 40 from each of the Amicus and T&G sections of the union and is tasked with overseeing the production of new rules for the fully merged union.
