Smartphones added to basket
Smartphones and mobile phone apps are two of the 19 additions to the 650-strong basket of goods used by the Office for National Statistics to compile inflation figures.
The basket is updated annually to reflect changing spending patterns.
Other new items include three sizes of flat panel TV and that old technology — a hardback fiction book.
