Journalists agree subs increase

The NUJ journalists’ union conference has voted to increase subscription rates and cut down on its delegate meetings in the light of the union’s financial difficulties.

The union has been hit by job losses, losing nearly a fifth of its membership in the past five years. Honorary treasurer Anita Halpin told the conference the union was facing “the double whammy of the dire state of the industry and the funding of our staff pension scheme”.

Subscriptions will rise by 5% and the delegate conference will become biennial, as opposed to its current frequency of every 18 months, with a one-day conference in the intervening year.
