Members urged to sign up to Labour

Billy Hayes, general secretary of the CWU communications union, has urged his members to “join the Labour Party and help us elect a real people’s government”.

At a meeting of the union’s Labour Party members he expressed cautious optimism about recent opinion polls and by-election results.

But he warned that this could only be converted to a solid election victory “on a radical and deliverable programme” through far greater involvement of trade unionists.
