Negative territory for CPI inflation

Inflation under the government’s preferred measure — the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) — moved into negative territory in April.The CPI was minus 0.1% against 0.0% the previous month.

Under the measure favoured by union negotiators — the Retail Prices Index (RPI) — inflation rose by 0.9% in April — unchanged on the previous month’s figure.
