Plans for posted workers threatened

The European Commission’s plans to revise the Posted Workers Directive, covering workers who have a contract with an employer in one EU member state but work in another, may be threatened by decisions in 11 separate parliaments.

These 11 parliaments (all but one in Central and Eastern Europe) have submitted “reasoned opinions” asking the Commission to reconsider its proposals.

They fear that the improvements in working conditions the Commission has proposed will make it more difficult for their companies to win contracts elsewhere.

It is not yet clear how the Commission will respond.
