Fringe benefits

Some hospitality workers at Edinburgh Fringe had the benefits of being in a recognised union this year after general union Unite reached a voluntary agreement with arts complex Summerhall.

Recognition was accompanied by Summerhall’s support of Unite’s Fair Hospitality charter. This resulted in a number of improvements to staff benefits including zero-hours contracts being replaced by minimum hours contracts, four weeks’ notice of rotas, and 100% of tips going to workers.
