Inflation edges up

The Retail Prices Index (RPI), the preferred inflation measure of union negotiators, edged up to 2.6% from 2.5% in March while the Consumer Prices Index Housing measure fell to 1.5% from 1.7%.

There’s uncertainty about the future of the RPI, the subject of a joint consultation by the UK Statistics Authority and HM Treasury.

Due to the pandemic, the consultation has been extended to 21 August.
