Fair employment clause

Following a legal opinion from a top lawyer, London major Ken Livingstone has confirmed that contractors bidding for contracts with the Greater London Authority (GLA) will have to agree to abide by a fair employment clause. Dave Prentis, general secretary of public services union Unison, said the union "will be calling on other public authorities to follow the GLA's example". The new clause will commit contractors to offering their employees terms and conditions which are "no less favourable" than those which the GLA itself would offer.
