The Musicians' Union has almost come to the end of a troubled period in which its national executive fell out with general secretary Derek Kay. The union's members voted nearly two to one in a ballot to back their executive and remove him from office, after which an "amicable agreement" was reached for his departure.

Kay only took up the leadership post in January after winning an election in which he ousted sitting candidate Dennis Scard.
