School janitors walk out

A number of groups were involved in industrial action last month, including cleaning staff in 18 Edinburgh schools who took strike action over irregular hours payments.

The strike by 130 members of the UNISON and T&G unions, began on 6 December and continued on 11 December. They want the bonuses, which are paid in secondary schools, to be extended to primary schools.

London Borough of Wandsworth home care staff took strike action on 12 December over council plans to cut £2 million from the home-care service budget.

And at Manchester airport workers were set to start strike action on 28 December over proposed job cuts. The 1,800 workers, members of the T&G, AEEU and MSF, were in dispute over compulsory redundancies.
