Security attacks

One security guard working with cash in transit is injured every three days during a robbery or attempted robbery, according to the GMB general union. In all, nine security vans are the target of robbery every week.

A survey by the GMB shows that in 1999 the number of robbery attacks on the cash in transit service reached 467, with 103 employees being wounded during these attacks.

The survey also shows that 14,700 people now work in the cash in transit side of the security industry and the wider security industry employs 300,000 people.
