Health in Europe

A new European Union report indicates the staggering scale of ill health across the continent.

Work and health in the EU: a statistical portrait reveals that:

* four million Europeans have a work-related musculoskeletal disorder;

* 1.4 million suffer from stress, anxiety or depression;

* 600,000 have a work-related respiratory disease;

* 200,000 have a work-related hearing problem; and

* 5.5 million consider themselves to have a long-standing disability due to a work-related disease.
