Alitalia jobs

Italian trade unions were in negotiations on the future of the Italian airline Alitalia as Labour Research went to press. The company plans to cut 5,000 jobs out of a total of 20,700.

The unions in the company agreed an initial rescue plan with the company in May, which involved new management led by Giancarlo Cimoli. Cimoli then came up with the new plan. The largest union confederation, the CGIL, says the plan "does not convince", but it is willing to continue discussions.
