GMB agrees ballot delay

Paul Kenny will stay on as acting general secretary of the GMB general union until the investigation into allegations against former general secretary Kevin Curran is complete.

Curran resigned in April amid allegations of ballot rigging in his election, charges which he denies.

Delegates at last month's GMB congress approved a detailed report from the central executive council. This explained the investigation and made several recommendations. These included delaying calling a new general secretary election until the investigation is over.

Meanwhile, Kenny has asked the government's certification officer to investigate an anonymous document circulated to CEC members before congress making allegations of high spending on hotels against himself, president Mary Turner and three other officials. He also denies those claims.
