Rail union ballot goes to round two

Train drivers' union ASLEF will be running a further election for the post of general secretary this month after the first round proved inconclusive.

The union, which was beset by major internal difficulties last year resulting in the dismissal of former general secretary Sean Brady, now faces a run-off election between the top two of the five candidates in last month's poll.

The two are acting general secretary Keith Norman, who received 2,970 votes, and union trustee Clive Jones, who got 1,559.
