New faces on General Council as Crow loses seat

Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT transport union, has failed to retain his seat on the General Council, the leading committee of the TUC.

The 12 unions with 100,000 or more members automatically have seats on the General Council, but the 54 smaller unions have to battle it out for 11 seats.

The two new members in this section are Tim Poil of the Nationwide Staff Group Union and Doug Nicholls of the Community and Youth Workers' Union.

Matt Wrack, the new general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union, did not follow his predecessor, Andy Gilchrist onto the General Council.

* Gloria Mills, head of equal opportunities at public services union UNISON, has become the TUC's first black woman president.
