GMB sticks with merger talks for now

The GMB general union will continue with "exploratory" talks on a merger with the TGWU general union and Amicus technical and professional union, at least until its February Central Executive Council meeting.

The GMB had planned to decide on its position in December but said that insufficient details had been available on what a "new" union would involve. A spokesperson said the union was still concerned that the three unions' financial systems and lay democracy were still "oceans apart".
