CND - now more than ever

Kate Hudson, Vision, paperback, 278 pages, £10.99

Kate Hudson is not just the chair of CND but also an authority on contemporary politics and this shines through this illuminating work.

The book is not just a history of CND since its foundation in 1958 but places the campaign's work in the context of international politics.

The result in a fascinating account of political developments and how the peace movement in general, and CND in particular, influenced (and in some cases failed to influence) the course of world politics.

While the focus is, of course, on nuclear weapons the book ranges wider than this and includes material on the Iraq war and on earlier conflicts including Vietnam.

The book's sub-title is: "The story of a peace movement", but it is more than that and all the better for it.
