Award on offer for workplace equality activists

An award to recognise individuals whose efforts have had a real impact on equal opportunities in the workplace is being offered by the Wainwright Trust, a charity that aims to promote race and gender equality in the workplace.

The award, of £1,000 and a trophy, is not intended for an equal opportunities expert but rather an individual who has overcome obstacles and resistance in order to achieve some sort of change in the workplace.

The Trust says the award could be won by a trade union official who has secured some improvement in equal rights at work, a worker who has taken a successful discrimination claim that set a precedent, a law centre worker or an employee or manager who has instigated an equality initiative.

Nomination forms are available from David Bell, Secretary, The Wainwright Trust, Town Farm House, Mill End, Ware, Herts, SG11 1LP, tel: 01920 821698.

The closing date for nominations is 31 October 2001.
