Save the black cab

Sacked workers from Coventry-based black cab manufacturer Manganese Bronze are being supported by the Unite unions London black cab members in their campaign to ensure that the vehicles continue to be built in the city.

The company went into administration last month and 156 workers have already been sacked. Unite warns there is a very real risk that the company could collapse, or that the black cab could end up being built in another country.

Unite national officer for the automotive industry Roger Maddison said: “The London taxi is iconic and the staff who build them are highly skilled. The black cab is part of Britain’s car manufacturing heritage and we expect the company and the administrators to do everything possible to secure the future of this Coventry-based company.”
