London Underground’s failure on domestic violence policy

The RMT rail union has accused London Underground of ignoring its basic duty of care in refusing to work with the union to develop a policy on domestic violence.

The union launched its model domestic violence policy for employers on International Women’s Day in March.

Women’s committee chair Tracey Darker pointed to the many companies from across the economy that have adopted such a policy. These include the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, NHS Employers, the Department for Health, drinks group Diageo and BP oil group.

Meanwhile, the TUC, Scottish TUC and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) have launched a survey to find out more about how domestic violence affects working life for those experiencing it.

It aims to identify what more employers, unions and colleagues can do to support people living with an abusive partner.
