Unions consult on local government offer

Unions in local government have launched a consultation over a new pay offer covering the period from 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2016.

The first stage consists of non-consolidated lump sum payments in December 2014 varying by grade. These are £325 for spinal column points 5, 6 and 7; £150 on spinal column points 8, 9 and 10 and £100 for those on spinal column points 11 upwards.

From 1 January 2015, the increases for the various spinal column points (SCP) are as follows:-

• 8.56% on SCP 5;

• 7.93% on SCP 6;

• 6.19% on SCP 7;

• 4.13% on SCP 8;

• 2.55% on SCP 9;

• 2.32% on SCP 10; and

• 2.2% on SCP 11 and above.

From 1 October 2015 SCP 5 will be abolished.

The main unions are consulting their members without a recommendation. The consultation process is to be completed by mid-November. In Northern Ireland, the public service union NIPSA has already recommended rejection.
