Cut-rate subs for young workers

The NUJ journalists’ union and the BECTU entertainment union have been running special reduced subscriptions schemes in November as part of events across the union movement for TUC Young Workers Month. The NUJ is also launching a Young Workers’ networking group and a dedicated young members’ page on the union’s website.

Other union intitiatives include a programme of mentoring of young union reps announced by the CWU communications union and and the launch of a young members’ website by the Unite general union.

The TUC says Young Workers Month focuses unions’ attention on what they can be doing to give young workers a voice. It points out that nearly two in five workers are under 35-years old, but only one in four union members.
