Seven-point career guidance plan for England

The Careers Sector Stakeholders Alliance has put forward a comprehensive proposal for a world class career guidance system in England.

The Alliance — of which the TUC is a member — has proposed seven key elements:

• the development of a national strategy for careers;

• enhancing career support for young people;

• expanding career support for adults;

• building professionalism and capacity within the careers workforce;

• enhancing quality assurance and accountability processes; and

• increasing the efficiency of the existing public spend and investing in careers.

Tom Wilson, director of the TUC’s learning and skills organisation, unionlearn, said: “Wrong career choices waste time and money.”
