Euro-level agreement on ageing planned

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and the employers’ associations at European level have included negotiations on an agreement on active ageing as part of their work programme for 2015 to 2017.

The agreement could include measures such as flexible working hours and work reorganisation for older workers as well as tutoring and skills transfers for new recruits. If an agreement is reached, national unions and employers’ associations will be required to implement it within their countries.

However, the work programme also includes efforts to ensure the effective implementation of the European level agreements that have already been signed, indicating that a signature at European level does not guarantee action in each member state.
