Regulation of drones


Aviation unions BALPA and Prospect have called for stricter rules on the use of drones, following a spate of serious near misses involving remotely piloted aircraft systems.


BALPA general secretary Jim McAuslan said a survey carried out by his union showed that the public want the UK to be a “safe drone zone”. BALPA backs stricter laws on training for drone pilots and punishment for endangering aircraft. 


And Prospect national secretary Steve Jary commented: “The implications of a catastrophic collision with an airliner approaching or leaving a major airport ... are obvious. The government and the CAA must put proper safety regulation in place before it is too late.”
