Austrian metalworkers sign above-inflation deal

The two Austrian unions representing metalworkers – PRO-GE for manual and GPA for non-manual employees – have reached agreement on pay increases for around 190,000 workers in the industry.

The 12-month deal, which runs from 1 November 2021 to 31 October 2022, provides for a 3.55% increase in the pay employees receive, as well as a 3.0% increase in the pay rates set out in the formal agreement. (Actual pay in Austria is almost always higher than the figures set out in the formal agreement.)

This is slightly higher than inflation, which was 3.3% in September. The new deal takes the lowest rate in the agreement to €2,089.97 a month.

Rainer Wimmer, one of PRO-GE’s main negotiators, described the deal as “fair and just”.
