Women and carers at risk from pension inequality

Women and carers are most at risk from pension inequality as they spend so much time out of the workforce and struggle to build up the years of national insurance contributions they need to get a full state pension.

With employees having to work longer due to the increased state pension age, many women and carers are being left behind, according to Now: Pensions, a workplace provider campaigning for greater pension equality.

Head of campaigns Samantha Gould said: “Women and carers are often reaching retirement age with little national insurance credits as they spend so much time out of the workforce,

“We are lobbying the government to help tackle pension inequality with new pension policies designed to get millions more people saving towards their retirement.”
