Greek minimum wage rises by 9.4%

The Greek government has increased the national minimum wage by 9.4% to €780.00 a month from 1 April. This is more than twice March’s inflation rate (4.6%) and takes the figure for the first time above the minimum wage of €751, which applied before the 2008 financial crisis.

The decision to increase the rate by a substantial amount in Greece is in line with minimum wage developments in many other countries, where rates went up in response to high levels of inflation ( Workplace Report, January 2023, pages 18-19). Greek inflation is now 4.6%, but over 2022 it averaged 9.6%.
