"Compensation culture" is a myth

Employers' claims that Britain has a "compensation culture" - where workers take legal action for the slightest reason - are unfounded, according to a report by the government's Better Regulation Task Force (BRTF).

Better Routes to Redress examines why some believe there is a compensation culture, and the damage this perception does. It also considers how people with grievances can have better access to redress, mediation and rehabilitation, and recommends improvements to these processes.

Bill Callaghan, chair of the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) said he was delighted at the findings, adding: "I also welcome the report's support for our policy that sensible risk management is the best way to prevent litigation or the threat of litigation."
